Michael McKenzie was appointed Headteacher of Alexandra Park School in September 2008. He began teaching in 1990 and has worked in Islington, Camden, Redbridge and Haringey. His previous roles included Head of sixth form at William Ellis School in Camden and Associate Headteacher at Beal High School in Redbridge. He is now a National Leader in Education.
Alexandra Park School is a National Teaching School and operates as one of the lead schools in the New River Teaching Alliance, which consists of ten partner schools across North London. The school was awarded ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted who commented in its report that “Alexandra Park School is a reflective and self-critical organisation which lives its aim to “put learning first” through its every action. Students are highly motivated learners who make rapid progress through outstanding teaching, an excellent curriculum and exemplary care and support”.
Michael McKenzie is himself a scientist, having graduated from Nottingham University with a degree in Chemistry. Over recent years, Alexandra Park School, which is a Maths and Science specialist school, has achieved a number of science awards and accolades, including Ogden Trust Status for Physics and National Space School, reflecting its status as a highly regarded specialist science institution.
